Consortium NEMUS/HIDROMOD wins tender for the preparation of the River Basin Management Plan for Madeira Archipelago River Basin District
Consortium NEMUS/HIDROMOD won the public tender for the preparation of the River Basin Management Plan (RBMP) for Madeira Archipelago River Basin District, launched by the Regional Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources of the Autonomous Region of Madeira in February 2013. The work includes the RBMP, its Strategic Environmental Assessment and Public Participation.
RBMP are instruments of sectoral planning, under the Water Framework Directive (Directive 2000/60/CE), aimed at the waters’ environmental, social and economic management, protection and enhancement, at river basin district level. NEMUSalready has relevant experience in this type of work, having led the consortium that conducted, with acknowledged success, the first RMBP in Portugal: Sado and Mira and Guadiana (Alentejo) river basin districts RBMP. Subsequently NEMUSalso led the consortium that conducted with recognized quality and within the deadlines set, the RBMP for Algarve streams river basin district.
Madeira Archipelago’s RBMP represents a new challenge for NEMUS, since it will need to complete the report in just two and a half months – less than 1/3 of the time available for previousRBMP –, so it is NEMUS’s belief that much work is already done and that the role of the Consortium will be more to fill some gaps and make the best out of the information that has already been produced.
