Óbidos Lagoon’s margins rehabilitation work was inaugurated
On 26 May, was inaugurated the work of rehabilitation of the margins of Óbidos Lagoon. The event that marked the opening of the bathing season, was attended by the Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning, Engineer Dulce Álvaro Pássaro, the Mayor of Óbidos, Dr. Telmo Faria, the Mayor of Caldas da Rainha, Dr. Fernando Costa and Dr. Orlando Borges, chairman of the National Water Institute (INAG).
This re-qualification project of Óbidos Lagoon began to be developed in 2000 for INAG and it was reformulated in 2004.
NEMUS developed a set of interventions in order to recover Óbidos Lagoon and the surrounding areas to enhance the enjoyment of this places. To change people behavior and to reverse the existing trends of environmental degradation, was implemented a segregated cycle facilitie around the edge of the lagoon, were built car parks and several footbridges. Were also built new structures for leisure activities in the lagoon and the degraded areas were recovered with suitable vegetation.
