The climate’s evolution in the hydrographic regions of Alentejo and Algarve, and the expected effects on water resources due to climate change, were analyzed as part of the Management Plan of Alentejo and Algarve’s River Basins, executed by two partnerships led by Nemus.
This analysis originated from scientific studies of Portugal and the hydrographic regions of Alentejo and Algarve, based on the construction of future climate scenarios from models of circulation of the atmosphere.
Climate change is one of the biggest environmental, social and economic threats the planet and humanity is facing today. The obvious regional asymmetries in the distribution of impacts put the south part of Europe in the most vulnerable position, with projections of high temperatures associated with droughts and reduced water availability. This situation will have a bigger impact on the economic sectors of tourism and agriculture, which are more dependent on the conditions of water resources.
