Barbados is a Small Island Developing State bounded by the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Its territory has a coastline approximately 114 km long and has jurisdiction over an Exclusive Economic Area 430 times its land area. Coastal water quality is affected by pollution from various land-based sources, causing negative impacts.
The overall objective of the project is to promote the preservation of marine habitats, marine ecosystem services, a healthy marine environment and sustainable marine based livelihoods in Barbados through the development of a Marine Pollution Management Strategy and Action Plan. This strategy and action plan consider the Barbados’ governance structures for development initiatives and provide targeted recommendations and interventions.
