The purpose of this study was to analyze the Portuguese aggregate market in order to better understand and assess this business sector which plays a very important part on the national economy by meeting the material demands of construction and public works.
The detailed study characterized the main sources (hydrographic network, shoreline, dredging in harbours, estuaries and lagoons and continental deposits and produced in quarries), the destinations and the inherent environmental effects.
Performed in partnership with Deloitte & Touche and CIDEC, the study included a prospective analysis of the demand and supply spatial matching, keeping in mind the positive and negative environmental implications of aggregate extraction as well as alternatives for the economic viability of the business sectors using them.
