This innovative study commissioned by EDIA aims to identify preferential location scenarios for businesses in the areas (municipalities) covered by the Multi-Purpose Development of Alqueva (EFMA – Empreendimento de Fins Múltiplos de Alqueva). The Study, performed in partnership with the InterdisciplinaryCenter for Economic Studies, was focused on the economic activities with the biggest development potential, such as agriculture and agroindustry, water, environment, innovation and technology, energy and tourism.
The Study took into account the natural, economic, social and cultural features inherent to the Alqueva Region. In the selection of the preferential location territories (municipalities), advanced methods in multicriteria support to decision making were used and special attention was paid to the cooperation/synergy or competition/conflict relations between the six economic activities.
