The detailed zoning plan developed by the consortium of Nemus and Baixa Atelier aims to minimize risks to people and properties by means of corrective measures for erosion and coastal defense, improve the use and habitability of public space in harmony with the natural surroundings, remove occupation of risk areas and reset and maintain the natural conditions of the ecosystem.
The area of this detailed zoning plan is integrated in the large landscape of Ria Formosa, characterized by a flattened topography, in which water is a major highlight due to the importance of the habitats associated with the intertidal zone.
The developed proposals defined the areas and criteria for the renaturalization interventions, particularly the recovery and reconstruction of dunes, the recreation of salt marshes and the scheduled removal of existing buildings in areas subjected to ocean overtopping.
