Protecting the coast, recovering coastal vegetation, restoring accesses and equipment and providing a signage and environmental education system were the main objectives of the project requested from Nemus in the context of the environmental rehabilitation of the Amorosa Dune System.
The Amorosa Dune System is set within a nearly 3 km long sandy shoreline, south of Viana do Castelo. This lengthy and well-preserved dune ridge is a coastal eco-system of huge ecological and landscaping importance but it is also an area used for bathing and recreational purposes and therefore subject to the pressures of human intervention.
Over the years Nemus has conducted similar projects in other regions of Portugal, such as the project of the dune recovery plan of Medão/Supertubos’ beach, in Peniche, executed in collaboration with the landscape architecture firm Global for the Coordination Commission of Lisbon and Tagus Valley.
