Environmental Impact Assessment of the new Power Station in Ressano Garcia, Mozambique
Environmental Impact Assessment of the new Power Station in Ressano Garcia: Environmental Impact Assessment report for public consultation.
The environmental assessment focuses on the construction of a gas based thermal power station in the industrial zone of Ressano Garcia, in Maputo’s province, Mozambique. This will reduce the energy deficit of Mozambique and of southern Africa’s region, which is very noticeable in Ressano Garcia where only 18% of its area has electricity.
The impact of this combined cycle Gas Power Plant with a power total of 99 MW is assessed on the construction and operation phases, for a 23 year horizon. The main impacts are related to the operation phase, as a result of the growth in available energy for exports and national consumption, thus replacing the imported electricity from South Africa.
Besides the field and office work, this assessment had an important public participation component with various local entities and institutions.
