Public Consultations for Resettlement Action Plan for the Raising and Rehabilitation of Kamuzu Dam I – Lilongwe, Malawi
The public consultations for the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) assigned to Nemus by the Lilongwe Water Board for the Raising and Rehabilitation of Kamuzu Dam I were announced. Two public meetings will be held for the presentation of the RAP. All contributions from stakeholders during the process will be integrated in the Final Report. Information will be accessible for public review and comment (On-site at each meeting and at the Lilongwe Water Board office). The meetings will be held in Lilongwe [July, 14th (14h00) at the District Commissioner’s Conference Room] and in Malingunde [July, 15th (9h30) at the Teachers Development Centre].
In order to manage and tackle water supply limitations and deficits, the Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) intends to increase the storage capacity of Kamuzu Dam I and cater the current water supply deficit and growing water demand in Lilongwe City. Kamuzu Dam I is located at Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda, Lilongwe District, approximately 25 km southwest of Lilongwe in Malawi.
At this stage, the LWB envisages three preliminary project options to achieve the raising of Kamuzu Dam I by 5 m (to establish a new Full Supply Level of 1.105 masl), along with a set of rehabilitation actions and measures to be undertaken under the National Water Development Programme (NWDP).
